Luthier
Marcel Snijders studeerde onder andere muziekwetenschap en een aantal jaren klassiek contrabas aan het conservatorium. In 1999 startte hij met het bouwen van zijn eerste instrument bij Lies Muller in het Atelier voor Muziek en Ambacht. Toen dat atelier in 2013 de deuren sloot had hij er vijf instrumenten voltooid. Hierna bouwde hij in het atelier van Gesina Liedmeier een basgamba en groeide het gevoel dat hij hij meer als bouwer aan de slag wilde. In 2017 startte hij de vakopleiding bij het Centrum voor muziekinstrumentenbouw in Puurs (België) die hij eind 2022 bij Mich de Bruyn voltooide als strijkinstrumentenbouwer en -hersteller van historische strijkinstrumenten. Begin 2023 opende hij Atelier GUTS in Nijmegen.
Marcel is als contrabassist actief in ensemble Septime en speelt violone en saz in Melocorde.
Van 2007 tot 2010 beheerde Marcel de collectie muziekinstrumenten van de Universiteit Utrecht en maakte hiervoor een catalogus.
Marcel Snijders studied musicology and classical double bass for a couple of years at the conservatory. He started the making of his first instrument in 1999 with Lies Muller at the Atelier voor Muziek en Ambacht. When this workshop closed its doors in 2013 he had completed five instruments. He then made a bass viol in the workshop of Gesina Liedmeier and the feeling grew that he wanted to be an active luthier. In 2017 he started his formal education at the Centrum voor muziekinstrumentenbouw in Puurs (Belgium) which he completed successfully with Mich de Bruyn in 2022 as a maker en repairman of historic bowed instruments. In 2023 he opened the doors of Atelier GUTS in Nijmegen.
Marcel is an active musician and plays double bass in ensemble Septime and violone and saz in Melocorde.
From 2007 until 2010 Marcel curated the collection of musical instruments of the Utrecht University and made a catalogue.
